NUTELLA-GLAZED MINI CINNAMON DONUTS

Untitled

Even the name looks yummy ...

Ok so, my lovely brother brought me a mini-donuts baking pan from Sweden (I ordered two really cute jars with straws - perfect for smoothies and cocktails ... mmmm gotta try that. Everything is from a shop called Lagerhaus). And of course I had to try it out and bake some mini (actually miniature) donuts. I searched for the recipe on Google and kind of picked the first one I got, but I changed it a little bit (since Christmas is just a few days away). Also, I felt like adding Nutella, so I made a delicious Nutella glaze for them (also from the internet, but modified).

Donuts (around 40 servings):
  • 150 g of All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp of Salt
  • 110 g of Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of Nutmeg
  • 120 ml of Milk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 20 g of Butter (melted)
  • 2-3 drops of Vanilla extract
Pre-heat the oven to 160°C. In one bowl mix the flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, cinnamon and the nutmeg. In the other bowl combine the milk, eggs, melted butter (I melted it in the microwave) and vanilla extract and mix well. Then slowly add the "wet mixture" to the dry one and mix well. Butter up the baking pan (the donuts shouldn't stick than ... well, mine still kind of did) and fill the holes with the mixture - make sure they are only 3/4 full, cause the donuts will gain in size and if they raise up too much, the hole in the middle will disappear. Bake them for 12-15 minutes (use a toothpick to see if they are baked through and through). Wait for them to cool down a little bit.

Nutella glaze:

  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) of Powdered sugar
  • 1 big spoon of Nutella
  • 1-2 spoons of Milk (first add one and if the mixture is too dry add the other one)
  • 1 drop of Vanilla extract
Mix all the ingredients well. Dip the upper side of each donut into the glaze, place them on a plate and wait for them to dry a little bit (or not, it depends how strong is your will :P).

And that's it. :)

The donuts were perfect for breakfast. With a cup of coffee and a glass of elderflower yoghurt. Yummmmmmm. :3

Oh, here is a photo of the baking pan.

SOTW: THUNDER CLATTER

Untitled

Song of this week is Thunder Clatter by Wild Club. Why?
  1. Cause I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.
  2. Cause I have been a little mess these past few days and when I heard it when I was in the shower, it made me happy in a second.
  3. Cause maybe, just maybe, he is the love of my life.
I hope you'll like it. :)

Btw, yeah, that's me on the photo. I went longboarding on Sunday (probably the highlight of my whole week) and I took some time for a quick photoshoot and this is one of the photos I made. Can't wait to go back there again.

BREAKFAST IDEAS

If you follow me on Instagram, you can tell that most of my photos of food are photos of my breakfasts. Yeah, I love them. They are usually the most colorful and photogenic meal of the day. And since I'm a slow and lazy wake-up-er (is that even a word?!) I probably take more time to enjoy my breakfast than normal people do. And not only that it has to taste delicious, it also has to look good. Oh yes, and a cup of coffee with milk is a must as a side.

Here you have three examples of the breakfasts I eat. I wanted to share them with you, so if maybe some of you are not really breakfast fans, maybe now you will because. Because breakfast is the most important meal of the day (oh, look at me, being a smart-ass here and then eating pizza for dinner). And look at them! They are too cute not to make and eat them! :3

Breakfast 1:

  • Mixed fruit (this time: banana, pomegranate, blueberries)
  • Vanilla or plain yoghurt
  • (Sometimes) granola
Breakfast 2:

  • Oatmeal cooked in milk
  • A teaspoon of honey
  • Fruit (strawberries in this case, but most of the time a banana)
Breakfast 3:

  • Banana pancakes (2 eggs, 1 banana)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Blueberries

Do you make breakfasts like this? Do you even have breakfast in the morning or are you one of the even lazier ones that just skip it? And yes, I know I have already talked about breakfast a bunch of times, but ... come on, look at it. :D

SOTW: I LIVED

Song of this week is I Lived by OneRepublic.

Why? Cause I went to their concert on Sunday and I still haven't calmed down. It was sooooooo awesome. I wasn't really close to the stage, cause I was too late to go into the fan pit, but it didn't matter to me. I went to the concert to hear OneRepublic (well, and Kongos, the opening group) live, a band I have been listening to for 7 years now, and that is what I did. And of course, I sang my heart out. I luckily wasn't surrounded with squeaky teenagers, which made the concert even more enjoyable. This concert was definitely put on my top 3 concerts in life list.

NEW DESIGN, NEW IDEAS

Well, hello there. Damn, I should start studying, but changing my blog design seemed like so much more fun, that I did this instead. It took me a few hours and all the nails, but I finally did it and I really love the result.

I feel like the design will motivate me to write more. I already have in mind 3 topics or groups of posts I think about writing:
  1. I have decided to start again with the Song of the Week posts, since I have been discovering a lot of new music over the last few months (also thanks to my new, amazing boyfriend <3).
  2. Also thanks to him, I'm (we are) cooking a lot more than I did in the past, so there is a big possibility I will start posting more recipes in the future. I got really good in making home-made semi-whole-wheat pizza, so if you are a pizza lover, you can get excited (and also rush?force me to posting the recipe with your comments :3).
  3. Over the last few months I have been to more concerts than I ever thought I would go in such a short time. And I have many more dates marked on my calendar. So, if you are into this, I can review them or do interviews with some bands, let you get to know them a little and than maybe you will decide that they seem so cool and amazing that you should go to their concert. What do you think about that?
I would be more than happy for your opinion on everything (the design and the post ideas). Even though I will have to start studying eventually, I will still take some time to write a post per week (or two weeks), at least to unwind a little.

In the end, a quick comparison between the previous and the current design ...

I hope you like it as much as I do. ;)

I had a chance to try 3 delicious burgers and bunch of really good beers. My taste buds were jumping with excitement, not only because of the juicy beef in the burgers, but because of the whole combination. Beef Burgers + Beer = Triple B HEAVEN. I think I will definitely visit the restaurants that made the yummy burgers I tried sometime in the future.

  • As Aperitivo: The Boss
  • Tokyo Piknik: Wagyu Burger
  • Dobra Vila (Hot Amigo): Čizluiz

BEST. SHOW. EVER.

Shell Beach + Roam + Enter Shikari @ Kino Šiška (12. October 2014)

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitled

I’m trying to find the words to describe this crazy, extraordinary, awesome show I went to yesterday, but I will just let the photos and the video talk for themselves (please, click on them if you want to see them in full size).

Great company + Crazy bands + Energetic crowd + Amazing music + Meeting band members + New hoodie = PERFECTION!

Hint: I’m also in the video (around 2:00), screaming back at the singer haha. I’m telling you … crazy people. :D

P.S.: As you can see, I'm not so blonde anymore. But I'm getting lighter and lighter every time I wash my hair, so I'm probably gonna be blonde again in a week or two. So no need to change my blog's title.

A GUIDE TO SURVIVING LAW SCHOOL

I graduated law school! YAY! And that’s the main reason why I haven’t posted anything lately. I was writing my thesis and preparing my thesis presentation over the last month and than celebrating the graduation since last Monday. But even though I have graduated, it doesn’t really feel like it, since I still have to do my masters next year. So it’s not the end yet, but at the same time, it’s something.

I have to admit, five years of law school weren’t a piece of cake and they are not suppose to be easy, since it’s freaking law school, right? But there are some things (tips) that can help anyone, who is struggling with their law studies or thinking about studying law in the near (or far) future that helped me. I want to share three of them with you.

1. You butt will hurt, but it’s worth the pain!
Meaning you will have to sit behind your desk and a pile of books for hours and hours (my maximum was 13 hours of studying per day for a week or two). Law school is tough and there are a lot of subject that you will probably find boring (maybe not at first, cause the professor is really fun, but when you will have to remember all 1000 pages in a book he wrote, he will not seem so fun anymore, trust me), but you have to pass them or, if you’re like me, pass them with a grade that contributes to your average score. It’s a lot easier when you study subjects that are really interesting and are a part of a field of law you hope you will work sometime in the future. But for me, that was a really short list of subjects. But every time you think about giving up just remember, you will be a lawyer when you finish school. And with a great grade average, even in a bad economy, there will be working opportunities waiting for you. Maybe you will have to find them by yourself, maybe work you butt a little bit more, but eventually, you will find something you like to do and all the “butt pain” will be forgotten.

2. Behind every successful woman there is a substantial amount of coffee!
Simple. If you have to study more than half of your day, you need something to keep you awake. I have to admit, I have always hated the taste of coffee. I survived unrealistically early mornings, after just a few hours of sleep, all throughout high school without a sip of coffee. But in my third year of law school I realized that I’m running out of my “youngster” energy and that I need to find something that will keep me up for hours. And there it was, a warm, light brown, wonderful cup of coffee with milk, just waiting for me to try it. It wasn’t love at first sight, but I grew more and more fond of “her” during all the long nights of studying that year. And now it’s true love, a love that helped me pass all my exams, write my thesis and graduate. Thank you, you delicious cup of heaven.

Untitled

3. Friends don’t let friends do stupid things alone!
After all the long hours behind (maybe not always so) useful books, you will get grumpy. Trust me, you will. And that’s when your (good, amazing, the best) friends jump in. They are the ones who will have to listen to all your complaining about how law school is killing you, how you chose the wrong faculty, etc. And since they will have to be the one to make you feel better, make sure you have really good friends standing next to you (or at least one). The one that will drag you away from the huge pile of books, order a beer for you in your favorite bar, tell you a gossip or a joke and make you forget about all the not-so-amazing stuff you have to study for the exam you have the following week. Believe me, just sitting locked up in your room for weeks or months is not productive at all. My grades were actually higher when I took some time to unwind during exam periods than they were when I was just studying and not at all socializing (which I did during my first two years). So, even if you know you there is still a lot you have to learn before your exam, trust me, a half an hour and a quick chat with your best friend will only do you good.

Untitled

Here you go. Here are the three main things that got me through my five years of law school. Maybe they seem obvious to you, but it took me some time to realize what really matters and what motivates me. I really wish I knew everything I know now about how to approach law studies when I started my first year. Things would be a lot easier. So I really hope this post will help at least one person, somewhere, sometime. :)

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN

I'm a bad blogger, I know. I have been MIA whole summer, but I don't regret it, since this was the best summer of my life so far. I've been to many different places, seen many wonderful things, heard many amazing bands and met a bunch of interesting new people that made everything even more special.

So first there was Malta. After that I had a few days to relax, wash all the clothes and to pack them up again to go to Zagreb for a few days, to INmusic Festival. This was my first whole festival outside Slovenia. My favorites from all the bands we heard are: The Fratellis, Flogging Molly, Bombay Bicycle Club and of course, the best ones, Crystal Fighters. Actually, all the bands that we heard were amazing (with maybe one or two exceptions) but I don't want to turn this post into one long list.

Untitled UntitledUntitled

When I got back I slept in my bed for a night and then packed my stuff again and headed to Šentviška Gora to Gora Rocka for 3 days (2 nights). Since (almost) all the bands that performed there have been together for at least 10 years (approximately), I felt like I was in high school again. I still don't know if this was a good or a bad thing, but if I sum it up, the weekend was crazy.

After that I had 3 weeks to work on my thesis, which I still haven't finished (yeah I know, the prolonging only makes it worse, but I have become a bad student, I guess). I have sent the parts that I have finished to my mentor and I'm still waiting for the answer and hoping everything is ok and that I will be able to graduate as soon as possible. In between all the writing I also found some time for fun stuff. Thanks to two awesome girls, I went to see/hear a band called TOY that was performing in Italy and we had a blast. I also ordered and received my own toy (haha), a longboard, and it's the best thing ever.

UntitledUntitledUntitled

After those 3 (too) long weeks, I packed my bag again and went to the seaside, Camping Brioni (ex Puntižela) to be exact, a place that has been my summer home for around 15 years now. Great location, delicious food, cold drinks, fun people ... what else can a girl ask for. It was exhausting but so much fun.

UntitledUntitledUntitled

Even though most of the people stayed in Puntižela, I had to move my ass again and go to Tolmin to Punk Rock Holiday. If you are following me for at least a year, you can remember that I already talked about this festival last year. Well this year was even better than last year. I knew more bands (preparations people, preparations!) and I met so many great people that I hope I will see again soon. My favorites (bands) this year: Lagwagon, Authority Zero, Templeton Pek, The Real McKenzies, The Toasters, Start at Zero, Real Life Version and of course, the winning award goes to Reel Big Fish (damn, I love ska).

UntitledUntitledUntitled

When I finally got home, my aunt was celebrating her birthday, so that meant another two days of partying. And then my body gave up and I spent 3 days on the couch, drinking tea and pills. But now I'm okay. So let's get this party started again, right? ;)

As a proof that I'm not lying about everything, I made 3 videos: two are from festivals and are made out of short clips that I took while we were listening to certain bands (sorry, there is no video from Gora Rocka, because I didn't have my iPhone with me) and one is "about" Puntižela (also, just some random clips).

Ok, my existence has been proven and now I can go back to enjoying the rest of the summer. Keep your fingers crossed for my thesis and I hope you are having the best summer too.

Love, Kaja. ♥
